CYBERJAYA, June 26, 2019 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) battles against the use of uncertified communications equipment continues when four individuals have
been charged at the Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court recently.
The MCMC Enforcement Division Head, Dato ‘Mohd Shafie Harun, informed that all the offenses committed by the four individuals and their companies are in relation to owning and selling of uncertified Android TV and AV Sender boxes.
According to him, in the first case, the accused known as Chen Kar Seng, a business owner of Media Home Enterprise, has been charged in possession of a total 146 uncertified Android TV boxes with the intent to
The case is being investigated under the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standard) Regulations 2000 and defendant has pleaded guilty and fined RM40,00 by the Court.
“In the second case, three individuals, Hing Fook Young, Tan Kim Sia and Ow Kee Foo, director of MSB Technology (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, are charged with selling 7 units of AV Sender that are against the standard, not certified and with improper use of MCMC label.
The case was also investigated under the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000. The company and the three-accused pleaded guilty and fined RM30,000 by the Court. All the items were handed over to the MCMC for disposal.
Meanwhile, Dato ‘Mohd Shafie also pointed out that the MCMC will continue to battle against the use of uncertified communications equipment in this country.
The public is also reminded to buy and use communications equipment that displays MCMC label only. This reminder, he said, aims to protect the safety of consumers as well as to avoid interruption to other communications services.
